Round five of the Lotus Elise Trophy saw the championship go to Oulton Park, with Sam currently leading the Rookie championship and 9th overall.

Early morning practice started well with Sam lying second overall but with electrical issues the Skip UK sponsored driver could only manage a 9th in qualifying. With Oulton Park being a fast flowing circuit and very narrow it would be a challenging first race. After a great start Sam managed to work his way through to 6th where he eventually finished the race. Race 2 saw the reverse grid and after a hairy opening lap Sam settled down into 5th where he remained before an engine issue raised its ugly head in the last 5 minutes of the race.

"The car has been quick this weekend but Oulton Park is extremely stressful on the car and with the electrical and engine issue today it was a shame not to finish the second race. We are still leading the Rookie Championship but it's very close at the top and is likely to go down to the wire."

Next round is at Donington Park on the 12th August.  Follow Sam's progress on Twitter @skipukracing
